Here's another thing to think about when it comes to using your school email account to sign up for personal service (apps, websites, etc.):
It does happen, from time to time, that the school has to investigate things that involve student activities on the internet.
Imagine how easy it would be for the school (specifically, Mr. Brackett) to investigate what a student is doing on social media when the student uses their school email address to sign up for a social media account.
Step 1) Mr. Brackett changes the password your school email account.
Step 2) Mr. Brackett takes control of your school email account.
Step 3) Mr. Brackett accesses your social media account and resets the password on the account. That reset password email goes to your school email address.
Step 4) Mr. Brackett now has access to your social media account, including all of your posts and exchanges with other students.
Additionally, social media providers are much more likely to cooperate with school investigations when they discover that the email account used to create the social media account is property of the school. At that point, they basically hand over any information that the school district requests.
It is a much better choice to use a personal email account to create your social media accounts off of. If you need assistance with doing this, Mr. Brackett can help.
